Morris Hospital welcomes first baby of 2025 with community celebration

Mary Fitzgibbon, M.D. President | Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers

On January 1, 2025, Morris Hospital welcomed its first baby of the year. Baby boy Zedekiah Dillon was born at 12:34 a.m., marking an early arrival for his parents, Zitlaly Rodriguez and Garrett Dillon from Morris. Delivered by Dr. Mary Fitzgibbon, an obstetrician/gynecologist at Morris Hospital, Zedekiah weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and measured 20 inches long. He joins his family as the younger brother to Grayson, who is one year old.

Originally due on January 15, Zedekiah's arrival came as a surprise to his parents when Rodriguez experienced mild contractions on December 31. "We were not at all prepared for him to arrive so early in the New Year, but we are thrilled he is here," said Rodriguez about her experience at Morris Hospital. She expressed gratitude towards Dr. Fitzgibbon and the Family Birthing Suites staff for their support during the delivery.

As Grundy County's first baby of 2025, Zedekiah received gifts coordinated by the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce. These included various items such as a storage organizer with baby care items from A&E Storage, books and toys from Birth to 5, gift certificates from Channahon Lanes and the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce, and several other contributions from local organizations.

Morris Hospital holds designations as a Level II perinatal care provider by the Illinois Department of Public Health and a Birthing-Friendly Hospital by the Department of Health and Human Services. The hospital's medical staff includes six obstetrician/gynecologists and seven pediatricians. In the previous year alone, Morris Hospital recorded the birth of 593 babies.
