Grundy County's business community recently gathered for the annual dinner hosted by the Grundy Economic Development Council (GEDC) and the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The event, held at Jennifer’s Garden in Morris, saw a record attendance of 550 guests, marking an increase from last year's figures.

John McCann, GEDC Board Chair from ComEd, opened the evening by acknowledging the efforts of local organizations and residents. "It’s a testament to the wonderful work of the GEDC, the Chamber, and all the residents and businesses that call Grundy County home," he said.

The event was supported by several sponsors including Busey Bank, CPV Three Rivers Energy, Old National Bank, P&G, City of Morris, American Commercial Bank, Carpenter’s Local 174, Nicor Gas, Surf Internet, Sunshine Garden Center, Airwave Media Productions, and Trajectory Energy Partners.

Chamber President & CEO Christina Van Yperen and Chamber Board Chairwoman Sarah Beach presented awards to local businesses. Beach highlighted the Chamber's recognition as Illinois Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives' 2024 Chamber of the Year for its advocacy efforts and membership growth. She invited attendees to congratulate "Christina, Lena, Christy, and our Chamber members on being Chamber of the Year."

The Business of the Year award went to Oleanders Boutique. Owner Megan Housman expanded her store significantly after purchasing a historic building in downtown Morris. Van Yperen noted Housman's commitment: “By October of 2023 she took her business to the next level.”

Laura and Tyler Jones received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for their venture The Cove in Coal City. Their business began during COVID-19 when Laura lost her job. They have since expanded into a larger space offering various community activities.

Hearts with Compassion was named Organization of the Year for its work providing free children's clothing and essentials to families in need. Founder Kim Przybyla started this initiative over ten years ago while recovering from cancer.

Christine Mendez from Grundy Bank was recognized as Ambassador of the Year for her role as a liaison between chamber members and staff.

GEDC President & CEO Nancy Norton presented additional awards. The Partnership Award went to YMCA, Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, and City of Morris for developing a new facility in Morris. Norton praised their long-term collaboration: “The fundraising...represents a full-on commitment.”

Trajectory Energy Partners received the Welcome to Grundy County Award for their solar development projects emphasizing community input.

Costco was honored as GEDC Business of the Year for its continued investment in Grundy County over 25 years. Costco General Manager Katie Holck accepted this recognition on behalf of her company.

The evening concluded with Sarah Beach expressing gratitude towards local businesses and organizations contributing to Grundy County's growth.
