The Village of Channahon, in collaboration with the American Red Cross, is organizing a blood drive scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, 2025. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Board Room in Village Hall located at 24555 S. Navajo Drive.
The early months of the year pose significant challenges for blood collection due to potential severe winter weather, which can result in the cancellation of blood drives. Additionally, cold and flu season may lead individuals to cancel donation appointments as they recover from illness. "If you're feeling well, please make and keep donation appointments to help ensure the blood supply stays on track throughout the winter," states the American Red Cross.
There is a continuous need for donors of all blood types, with a particular emphasis on type O negative blood. The organization highlights that those who donate will gain valuable health insights and more. "American Red Cross wants our donors to know how much they care about them by expanding our health offerings to include free A1C testing (commonly used to screen for prediabetes and diabetes) for all who successfully give blood, platelets or plasma in March," according to their statement.
Furthermore, individuals who donate between March 1-31 will receive a $10 Amazon Gift Card via email as an additional incentive.
For those interested in participating, appointments can be reserved online.
