For over two decades, Morris Hospital has been at the forefront of providing advanced heart care through its Catheterization Lab. This facility is crucial for procedures like pacemaker and defibrillator implants, as well as interventions to address blocked arteries. The hospital recently reinforced its commitment to cardiovascular care by installing a new Siemens Healthineers ARTIS Icono system in the Cath Lab. This system offers enhanced image quality, aiding cardiologists in diagnosing and treating heart conditions.

The $1.7 million upgrade was made possible through donations to the Morris Hospital Auxiliary & Foundation. One of the critical applications of this technology is during STEMI heart attacks, where it assists cardiologists in performing coronary angioplasty to restore blood flow.

Jori Christensen, Director of Cardiovascular Services at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, emphasized the importance of timely intervention during heart attacks: “When a patient is having a heart attack, time is of critical importance.” She noted that the Cath Lab team is always ready for such emergencies.

Christensen also highlighted the significance of having advanced cardiac care available locally: “As a resident of Grundy County myself, I believe we are very fortunate that our local community hospital provides such an advanced level of cardiac care.”

Morris Hospital's cardiac services extend beyond emergency interventions. They include diagnostic testing and a cardiac rehabilitation program designed to aid recovery through exercise and lifestyle education. The rehabilitation program recently moved to the new Morris Hospital YMCA location.

The hospital's cardiovascular services are supported by Morris Hospital Cardiovascular Specialists, which includes interventional cardiologists Dr. Syed Ahmed, Dr. Mostafa Ghanim, and Dr. Athar Saeed; general cardiologists Dr. Mary Menz and Dr. Hershel Wix; nurse practitioner Sherese Pruss; and electrophysiologist Dr. Alexander Green from Loyola University Medical Center.
