Minooka has celebrated the completion of Phase 2 of Aux Sable Springs Park, marking a significant expansion and improvement of the park facilities. The project was a joint effort involving the village, Kendall County Forest Preserve, the Conservation Foundation, and Will County government.

Jack Guldenbecker, Minooka Community Development Officer, acknowledged the contribution from The Davidson Family. "Special recognition is also due to The Davidson Family who contributed $700,000 to Minooka’s parks, $400,000 of which has been used for this project. Even in passing Lorraine and Jerry Davidson continue to be true stewards of the community and their impact can be appreciated by many future generations," he stated.

The newly completed phase includes a splashpad, an additional baseball field, accessible park equipment, new pavilions, and pickleball courts. A ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 2 marked its opening with participation from local officials and representatives from Channahon Minooka/Grundy County Chamber.

Chamber President & CEO Christina Van Yperen highlighted the village's commitment to enhancing community spaces. "The village has spent years prioritizing community space for its residents and visitors. The completion of this portion of Aux Sable Springs Park is the culmination of years of work and judging by its use by families daily – it was well worth it," she said.

Aux Sable Springs Park is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Facilities like pavilions and ballfields are available for rent through contact with the village office.

Looking ahead, there are plans for further enhancements including a potential lake and expanded walking trails. Guldenbecker noted that these plans are still aspirational but necessary as the community grows. "Though right now these plans are aspirational, a growing community warrants the growth of amenities, and this certainly does not mark the end of Minooka’s greenspace offerings," he added.
