December 20, 2024, MORRIS, IL - Alex Corwin, a registered nurse in the Emergency Department at Morris Hospital, has been recognized as the December Fire Starter of the Month by Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. Her dedication to patient care and her positive influence on colleagues have earned her this accolade.
Corwin's career in healthcare was inspired by her childhood experiences with medical professionals. "When I was younger, I experienced firsthand the impact that doctors and nurses can have on their patients," she said. This early exposure fueled her desire to work in healthcare and help others feel safe and cared for.
Tony Bucki, Director of Emergency Services at Morris Hospital, praised Corwin's contributions: “Alex brings positive energy and a big smile every time she works,” he stated. He highlighted her ability to remain calm under pressure and lead effectively as key assets to the department.
Haley Garifo, an Emergency Department Patient Care Technician who nominated Corwin for the award, described her as a source of inspiration. “Alex is a positive influence not only on her coworkers but most importantly on her patients," Garifo noted.
Corwin emphasized the importance of connecting with patients during their care journey. She remarked on how crucial it is for patients to feel heard and involved in care decisions: “I know from my own experiences as a patient...that being heard and feeling involved in the care decisions makes a world of difference.”
