Morris Hospital partners with YMCA to open new facility offering outpatient services

Pat Durkin Vice President, Ambulatory Services | Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers

Morris Hospital has announced that its partnership with the Morris Community YMCA will culminate in the opening of the new Morris Hospital YMCA on December 16. The facility will host a range of outpatient services previously located at Morris Hospital’s Diagnostic & Rehabilitative Center on Gore Road. These services include physical, occupational, and speech/language therapy, as well as cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation.

The hospital's designated space within the YMCA spans 8,800 square feet and features exam rooms for cardiology and orthopedics/sports medicine visits. X-ray services for orthopedic patients will also be available on-site. Patients accessing these services will enter through the same entrance as YMCA members but will have a separate reception area managed by a hospital representative.

The setup at the new location mirrors that of the Diagnostic & Rehabilitative Center, with a rehab gym overlooking prairieland. Additional facilities include semi-private physical therapy treatment rooms, an occupational therapy area, private rehab treatment rooms, and a speech/language therapy room situated in a quieter part of the building.

Sarah Wrightson, Director of Rehabilitation Services at Morris Hospital, highlighted the benefits of this integration: “When patients complete rehabilitation or therapy, it’s very important that they continue exercising to maintain the quality of life that we have helped them attain through our services,” she said. “That’s the piece the YMCA offers.”

Tom Dohm, President & CEO of Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, expressed enthusiasm about this long-standing collaboration: “Our partnership with the Morris Community YMCA has been growing and evolving over the past 10 years in preparation for this moment,” he stated. “We couldn’t be more excited to be bringing Morris Hospital services under the same roof as the YMCA.”

While certain therapies are relocating to this new site, other medical services such as immediate care and outpatient laboratory work will remain at their current locations on Gore Road and U.S. Route 6 in Morris.

Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers operates from 27 locations and employs over 1,900 healthcare professionals. It provides comprehensive healthcare including cardiac intervention, cancer radiation therapy, advanced surgical procedures like Mako robotic-arm assisted surgery for orthopedics, intensive care units, integrated behavioral health care within primary settings, emergency care around-the-clock along with being recognized as a Level II trauma center.
