Morris Hospital earns top safety grade in Leapfrog spring 2025 report
Pat Durkin, Vice President, Ambulatory Services | Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers

Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers in Illinois has been awarded an 'A' in the spring 2025 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. This recognition reflects the hospital's capability to prevent medical errors and ensure patient safety. The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog, updates these grades twice a year based on over 30 performance measures, including errors, accidents, injuries, and infection rates.

Data from July 2021 to December 2024 were used to determine the current grades. Among 109 participating Illinois hospitals, 32% received an A, 16% a B, 37% a C, and 15% a D or F. Kimberly Landers, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive at Morris Hospital, emphasized the institution's commitment to safety. She noted that the organization practices daily quality assessments and issues monthly report cards reviewed by the hospital's Quality Committee.

"Delivering quality, safe care to patients requires a commitment from everyone in the organization," Landers stated, emphasizing the importance of safety checks and open communication. "This is how we protect the public from errors, injuries, accidents or infections."

Morris Hospital, encompassing the 89-bed facility and multiple physician offices across various locations, employs over 1,900 healthcare professionals. It offers services including cardiac intervention, Mako robotic-arm assisted surgery, behavioral health integration, and advanced emergency care. The hospital also functions as a Level II trauma center, perinatal care provider, and primary stroke center.
